The Wolds

The Wolds

The gentle rolling hills and lush grass paths make it the ideal destination for a walking holiday, and Burton Lodge Guest House is ideally located for exploring the chalky countryside.

The Wolds range from the miles of golden sandy beaches in Filey in the north of the county, to the Hessle, home to the world-famous Humber Bridge.

Explore the Yorkshire Wolds Way, a 79 mile National Trail which extends through East Yorkshire to Ryedale. Expect the bluest skies and relaxing open spaces – it’s the ideal destination for anyone looking to escape the hustle and bustle of day to day life!

To sum up the Wolds?

Great views and great food awaits you. A fab farming county, sample the local produce – and a pint of Yorkshire ale - in one of the Wolds’ picturesque pubs.

So whether you explore the Wolds by foot, bike (or maybe even horse) you’re sure to enjoy the natural beauty of this gorgeous corner of the Earth.

Less than 40 miles from the Burton Lodge Guest House is the beautiful, historic city of York.

With ancient history, romantic ambience and plenty of fun activities, York really does have something for everyone. Found by the ancient Romans, walk its city walls, explore its quaint cobbled streets, and delve into the city’s vibrant café culture.

With attractions, museums, historic buildings and tours galore, you’ll be in for a fun-filled family day in historic York. This beautiful medieval city is an absolute must-visit for history buffs.

For thrill-seekers, visit the infamous York Dungeon, and hear about the historic city’s gruesome past (but don’t say we didn’t warn you!)

Prefer the pace a little slower?

Visit the winner of Google’s Most Picturesque Street, The Shambles, or book a table at a real Yorkshire institution, Betty’s, serving traditional afternoon teas, pastries, cakes and other delights, and take the weight off your feet.

After a day of exploring the city, head back to the Burton Lodge Guest House to relax and unwind, and enjoy our picturesque grounds and peace and quiet.

Hull - City of Culture 2017

Announced as proud winners of the UK City of Culture 2017 back in 2013, this prize is given to cities that believe culture has the power to transform a city, and Hull is exactly that.

Following this announcement, the City Council set up Hull UK City of Culture 2017, which operates as an independent company and charitable trust, with the sole aim of delivering on its promise – to deliver transformative cultural activity throughout the year.

With an arts and culture programme running throughout the year which draws on the distinctive character of the city, it’s history, geography, and most importantly, its people. Split into 4 different seasons running throughout 2017, you can expect to be both challenged and thrilled by everything on offer.

Hull is fast-becoming a cultural destination on many tourists’ must-see lists, thanks to its coveted status, and just over 30 minutes’ drive from Burton Lodge Guest House it makes the perfect destination for those culture vultures.

Beverley Minster

One of the county’s best kept secrets, the picturesque market town of Beverley in rural East Yorkshire has plenty to offer as a day trip destination.

Voted one of the best places to live in the UK, wander around the awe-inspiring Minster, take in the beautiful historical buildings and tread the cobbled streets making the most of the independent shops, cosmopolitan cafes and fine dining restaurants. There’s certainly something for everyone in this charming market town.

Whilst the Minster, Beverley Westwood and the racecourse are up there on our list of favourite things to do, Beverley has so much to offer.

Catch a production at the East Riding Theatre, marvel at the gorgeous architecture of the Guildhall, or seek out an antique gem at the St. Crispin Arcade.

With gastropubs and restaurants a plenty, reflect on your day of sightseeing with a pint of local ale.

The best bit?

It’s less than a 20 minute drive from Burton Lodge Guest House, making it the perfect day and night time destination. Our friendly team would be happy to recommend their favourite places to eat and drink in Beverley, or book you a taxi if you’re heading into the town in the evening.

Happy guests make us happy!
